#Workout Wednesday - How To Make A Tuna Protein Shake

If you're going after some hard gains in muscle strength and mass in 2018, lifting smart and hard is the first step, but the second, indispensable step is getting enough protein to start building muscle. This is actually where a lot of people fail. If your body doesn't have the raw materials to bulk up, it just won't be able to, even if it wants to because you've been lifting. From my own experimentation over the last year, I highly advocate cooking and blending high calorie meals with plenty of protein in them. Blending opens up all those calories and nutrients to instant absorption. It makes everything you're taking in readily available to your body without the work of digestion, and it is easier on your digestive tract, which will be important given how much you will have to eat to gain. Pay attention to how you're feeling, but don't worry too much about putting on some fat as well as muscle when you're trying to gain. If you're worried, l...

Did Cooking Make Us Human? What A Great Documentary!

We are the only species on earth that cooks its food - and we are also the cleverest species on the planet. The question is: do we cook because we're clever and imaginative, or are we clever and imaginative because our ancestors discovered cooking? Horizon examines the evidence that our ancestors' changing diet and their mastery of fire prompted anatomical and neurological changes that resulted in taking us out of the trees and into the kitchen. Loved the food porn and music. Especially of people eating it. Delightful and funny. Fascinating to consider just how huge a technological advancement it was for our ancestors to begin using fire, cooking food, and eating meat. Cooking is a useful and pleasurable external enhancement of our digestive system and process. We might be here because our ancestors tried something fun and new.

The Capitalist Message of Easter Egg Hunts??

Made up characters that give you free stuff if you behave yourself. So I Googled " libertarian easter eggs ." I don't know what I was hoping to find. Maybe some egg dyed bright yellow with the words "DONT TREAD ON ME" stenciled on. Or a half black, half gold anarcho-capitalist Easter egg. Or a half black, half red anarcho-communist Easter egg. Or a red, white, and blue Easter egg. Or something. Anyway, I found this pretty cute article from Parents.com's DadaBase Blog by a libertarian dad about his two-year-old son's successful egg hunt. The dad thinks his son learned a subtle capitalist message. I don't know. I think an egg hunt is probably more mercantilist than anything. It's also definitely zero-sum. If you want to teach the kid a capitalist message, arrange to take him on a tour of a local family farm where they actually create new eggs. Have him buy a couple with some money he made doing simple age-appropriate chores. Take them hom...

Video: How Elites Are Spearheading an Anti-Industrial Revolution

By: Wes Messamore On Russia Today , Alex Jones discusses how global power players are working to orchestrate global control over the world's economy and natural resources to advance an agenda of radical population reduction and a return to pre-industrial feudalism. If you think this is over the top or hard to believe, I have only one question for you: Why? Wes Messamore , Editor in Chief, T H L Articles | Author's Page

#NotTheOnion - Congressman apologizes for criticizing Michelle Obama’s ‘large posterior’

Just wow : Rep. Jim Sensenbrenner was overheard loudly complaining on the phone in the Delta Lounge at Reagan National Airport outside Washington about Obama's healthy food initiative. According to Fishbowl DC, which first reported the lawmaker's remarks, Sensenbrenner was recounting a recent conversation he'd had at church event in Wisconsin. Obama, Sensenbrenner said loudly, "lectures us on eating right while she has a large posterior herself." According to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel's Daniel Bice, Sensenbrenner made a similar remark at the Wisconsin church he was referencing in his phone call, telling attendees there that Obama has a "big butt." The Wisconsin lawmaker—who, it must noted, is a bit rotund--sent a personal note to Obama apologizing for his remarks, his spokeswoman Amanda Infield tells Yahoo News. She declined to go into detail about what the note said. In a statement to reporters, the lawmaker reiterated his apology....

The Caveman Diet: A "Conservative" Diet?

Here's what conservative columnist Jack Hunter recently had to say about The Primal Blueprint , a book advocating the "paleo diet" or "caveman diet" (a diet of mostly meats and vegetables): In its philosophy, the Primal Blueprint is essentially a conservative diet. Author and Primal Blueprint creator Mark Sisson says, "Forget everything you thought you knew about diet, exercise, and health. It's time to go back to the beginning." He believes that the "experts" at the Food and Drug Administration, with their food pyramid and nutritional advice about what constitutes a well-balanced meal, are full of it. According to Sisson, "The Primal Blueprint is validated by the magnificent 2-million-year scientific study that is human evolution. Our genes prefer natural hunter-gatherer foods, such as vegetables, fruits, nuts, seeds, meat, fish, fowl, and eggs." What we should avoid are grains and sugars, writes Sisson. "Processed ca...

Pay Attention! Having More Than 7 Days of Food Makes You A Suspected Terrorist!

"Someone missing fingers on their hands is a [terror] suspect according to the Department of Justice, someone who has guns, someone who has ammunition that is weather proofed, someone who has more than seven days of food in their house can be considered a potential terrorist." -Sen Rand Paul (R-KY) on the Senate Floor discussing the indefinite detainment provisions of the pending defense spending bill Wes Messamore , Editor in Chief, T H L Articles | Author's Page

Weekend Open Thread - The Holiday Season Discussion Edition

I'm busy this weekend preparing for this coming week, which I'm hoping will be one of the best ever for this website. If I get a few other things done first, I might get around to commenting on Gary Johnson's potential third party bid , trouble in Pakistan , the lack of black Americans in the Occupy movement , and the second "ClimateGate" leak . Feel free to comment on these issues or others yourselves in the comments below. Also feel free to share what you did for Thanksgiving and what you're excited about doing for Christmas! I had enough pie and cheesecake after dinner to give myself a headache while eating with the family of some old friends of mine. They also dug up a tape of us playing at a birthday party as children. While watching, I made a very specific remark about something in the tape, and then 12 year old me in the tape made that very same remark. Everybody bust out laughing. I was kind of freaked out by it. I guess some things never change. E...

Terrorist Turkeys! DHS Issues Warning on the Potential Dangers of Turkey Fryers

Mary Theroux reports at The Independent Institute : Thank goodness for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS)—the $57 billion per year super-agency created when the already bloated Department of Defense turned out to be incapable of defending even its own Pentagon headquarters. I mean, if it didn’t exist, how else could Americans learn that vats of boiling oil pose a danger? For all those hapless cooks who have never seen a movie or cartoon of defenders pouring said vats over the ramparts of their besieged castles, the folks at DHS have helpfully Tweeted this warning on turkey fryers with a video showing their potential dangers. $57 billion per year? And it was created in the first place because there were too many different agencies and bureaucracies, so a whole new cabinet level one was supposed streamline things a bit? Can I get my money back? FACT: As the "7 billionth baby" is born, remember that overpopulation is not a threat to humanity nor to the global ecosystem

These are exciting times to be alive for sure! Today, humanity has reached an unprecedented milestone at the later stage of a steeply upward-sloping population curve, the birth of the world's seven billionth baby (hat tip: memeorandum ) , or to be more precise, the first baby to put the total human population at seven billion. The Daily Caller reports : 'The United Nations estimates that the 7 billionth baby in the world will be born on Monday. The international agency has chosen Manila-born Danica May Camacho as the symbolic milestone baby, as first reported by the UK Guardian. National Geographic will devote a year long series to mark the occasion, complete with questions like “Are there too many people on the planet?” and “Can we feed seven billion of us?” Amid panic-laced prompts, the UN Population Fund (UNFPA) has called the milestone a victory for mankind, as people are living longer and children are surviving childhood — with the caveat being that the world nee...

What I did on the ten year anniversary of 9-11

During my brief trip to Korea, on the ten year anniversary of 9-11, I did exactly what the terrorists didn't want me to do: I lived without anxiety. I lived without regrets. I lived without fear. I let nothing intimidate me. I let my soul be still. I laughed with my friends. I tried something new. I marveled at nature. I sang at the top of my lungs... badly. My heart was at ease, because I spent all day knowing that for me, this day and every one that preceded it for the last decade was not about the terrorists, but about loving my life, the world I live it in, and the people with whom I am so lucky to share this world. The best memorial I could offer for so many thousands murdered ten years ago, was to ignore their murderers, live without terror in my heart, and in its place let blossom joy. Thomas Jefferson Would be Rolling Over in His Cookie Dough

On Friday while I was visiting with friends in Chicago's loop at our yearly "Friends of Berghoff" Christmas gathering, the US House of Representatives was busy saving our children again. Thank goodness for that holiday blessing. And it's good to know that even while I was exercising my God given right to eat and drink all the wrong things in the wrong quantities, Congress was exercising it's unconstitutional power to keep school kids from growing up as fat and unhealthy as I am. The reference is to the narrowly passed "Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010” which now moves on to the Senate where the "greatest deliberative body in the world" will consider whether it wants to lame duck it into existence before deciding if the people are going to get the largest tax increase in history pushed up their donut holes on Jan 1st. The wonderful legislation was being pushed by Michelle Obama who took time out from scolding her husband for sneaking ciga...

Manliest Way To Cook Bacon Ever!

I’ve discovered a new way of cooking bacon. All you need is: bacon, tin foil, some string, and.. oh whats it called?… oh yeah, an old worn out 7.62mm machinegun that is about to be discarded, and about 200 rounds of ammunition. Food Stamp Nation

"'The lessons of history … show conclusively that continued dependence upon relief induces a spiritual and moral disintegration fundamentally destructive to the national fiber. To dole out relief in this way is to administer a narcotic, a subtle destroyer of the human spirit.' "These searing words about Depression-era welfare are from Franklin Roosevelt’s 1935 State of the Union Address. FDR feared this self-reliant people might come to depend permanently upon government for the necessities of their daily lives. Like narcotics, such a dependency would destroy the fiber and spirit of the nation. "What brings his words to mind is news that 41.8 million Americans are on food stamps, and the White House estimates 43 million will soon be getting food stamps every month. "If you would chart America’s decline, this program is a good place to begin. As a harbinger of the Great Society to come, in early 1964, a Food Stamp Act was signed into law by LBJ appropri...

The Libertarian Virtues of Dumpster Diving

I intend to ask the question, "Is it libertarian to dumpster dive?" -dumpster diving being the activity of retrieving food products from dumpsters or grocers and feeding them to people that need it. The first obvious question is whether the grocer still possesses and owns the food upon placing it in the dumpster. Well? There are two sides to this. On one hand, the owner of the dumpster would in concrete terms have ownership of the food and any other refuse in the dumpster. But on the other hand, by discarding materials into the dumpster the grocer has arguably discharged ownership of the refuse. A case can be made for the food being ethically retrievable from a property rights standpoint. If we accept this premise, then there are multiple organizations that can be embraced into the libertarian fold. An excellent example of this is Food Not Bombs . As quoted from their website homepage: " Food Not Bombs shares free vegan and vegetarian meals with the hungry in over 1,0...

1 million pounds of California ground beef recalled after E. Coli outbreak

The fifty-year-old, family-owned and operated Modesto company said in a recent statement: "This is the first recall in our history and we will investigate the matter thoroughly and take any measures deemed necessary to further elevate our safety standards, protect consumers, and ensure confidence in our products." At the Los Angeles Times , P.J. Huffstutter points to calls for more Federal regulation and oversight to prevent illnesses in the future: "...at least in the eyes of some food safety advocates, this most recent recall is one more reason that the federal government needs to roll out more comprehensive – and digitized -- traceability programs." But in the next paragraph Huffstutter also quotes Donna Rosenbaum, executive director of Safe Tables Our Priority, a private, non-profit organization, in an apparent criticism of the regulatory regime: "It’s concerning that the USDA was alerted to this problem in July and it took three weeks for the recall ...
