Under The Law

Under the Law and feeling stuck? Then punish your innocent son. Be more like God and pass the buck, Just punish your innocent son. Creators creating creative creations have no obligations but one: Don't spit on the tablets and bury the nations, Just punish your innocent son. And behold all the good that it's done.....

A Poem for a Teacher

I loved you, prison guard. I know you loved me. I had no choice and no escape from the cinder block walls for an eternity of those bright adolescent hours that should have been all mine to have and to hold for better or worse and spend in brilliant bursts of godlike play that could have only made it better. But in that dreary prison place, I felt that I had yet escaped from some even darker, more sickly and sorrowful hole, and that you, my prison guard, were at least some fashion of a mother to me.

I can't even believe this is legal.

Tell Uncle Sam What You Want For Independence Day!

My mom was waiting on the other side of the TSA line with her camera ready, all excited about taking my picture on Uncle Sam's lap. Stupid. Sometimes she is so embarrassing. She made me step out of line and give her the jolly ranchers that fell out when the TSA officer made me empty my pockets. Those were my jolly ranchers. My friend Evan gave them to me at school. And I even traded him something that took me a whole hour to make with my other friends that we learned at camp. Then I had to go back through the security line twice! Like I'm a criminal or something. The mall Uncle Sam looked really fake this year. Half of his fake bushy eyebrow was coming off. I keep trying to tell everybody I'm too old for this, but I don't have the heart to tell my mom that I don't believe in Uncle Sam anymore. Plus I want the presents. My dad even told me if you don't believe in Uncle Sam, he won't visit and leave presents. I saw them wrapping one of the p...

A Libertarian Consensus on Abortion

In response to some recent comments on my popular libertarian essay about abortion , it's time for me to mention that my views have shifted. I would argue that for the purpose of discussing law and public policy, the critically relevant issue is not the nature of the fetus as I have argued before, but the nature of the state. Let's come up with a libertarian consensus on abortion that even if a human fetus is a living human being entitled to self-ownership and non-aggression, and even if to abort a human fetus is to murder a human being, that we still don't want to pass a law against it in a monopoly legislature, appoint a standing army of career policethugs, and try to enforce that law with money we take from people against their will and under threat of violence-- because if all that isn't bad enough to begin with, even if protecting human fetuses was the only thing this government did, before long it would end up doing a hundred other unrelated things that make us ...

Video: The Facts About Spanking, by Stefan Molyneux

The shocking science about the long-term effects of corporal punishment, essential viewing for every parent! As you watch, remember that the statistical harm that spanking causes children as outlined in this video presentation apply to the kind of spanking that many in our society do not consider problematic: defined as an open-handed striking of a child's butt or extremities that is intended not to cause any physical injury. So this isn't about people beating their kids and leaving welts. Even pretty light-handed spanking is an extremely risky parenting practice. I'll let the facts speak for themselves: For further investigation, here is the source material used for the presentation above: http://board.freedomainradio.com/forums/t/32072.aspx

My Thoughts On The Florida Woman Who Filmed Herself Berating Dunkin Donuts Workers

This has been making its rounds for the past couple days. In a nutshell: This woman came in and hysterically berated the workers over a forgotten receipt. It's just awful to watch. I'm not even going to embed the video, but you can watch it if you'd like by following the link. Warning: You'll feel a deep, burning shame as you watch. Here's the thought I shared with a friend on this: No one really cares that much about a receipt. She's clearly got deep anger issues. I'd bet money they have something to do with her parents. My sense is that these kinds of displays speak volumes about how people behaved in the home during a person's childhood. Parents, your boorishness towards your children is unleashing a bunch of angry, petty, depressed, and desperate people on the rest of the world. Stop it. Please just stop it. (I'd give ten to one odds she was spanked, put down, and bullied in the home as a child.)

CA Police Take Baby Because Mom Wanted Second Medical Opinion! (Video) UPDATED: Court Rules in Favor of The Power Structure

"I'm going to grab your baby, and don't resist, and don't fight me, okay?" Imagine a mother hearing these words from an armed stranger. How would you react? This is your government. Look at it: Part I: Part II: Via: MoxNews . Fist bump: reader, Heath. And now, your moment of Zen: Text Summary of news segment: SACRAMENTO, CA - A Sacramento family was torn apart after a 5-month-old baby boy was taken from his parents following a visit to the doctor. The young couple thought their problems were behind them after their son had a scare at the hospital, but once they got home their problems got even worse. It all began nearly two weeks ago, when Anna Nikolayev and her husband Alex took their 5-month-old boy Sammy to Sutter Memorial Hospital to be treated for flu symptoms, but they didn't like the care Sammy was getting. UPDATE: Couple still unclear why CPS took their baby For example, one day Anna asked why a nurse was giving her so...

The Neuroscience Happening In a Baby's Brain Is Essential to Their Future

Such an interesting interview on Stefan Molyneux's Freedomain Radio with Dr. Stuart Shanker. Key takeaways: Babies are born with all their neurons, but few connections. The stimuli they experience helps grow the connections and wire the circuitry of their brain. Their interaction with their parents is crucially important in helping them to grow well-ordered circuitry so they develop into successful children and adults. Specifically, soothing behavior from the parents helps teach them to grow connections that allow them to "self-soothe" and properly deal with stress and pain as they become more independent. Arousal and aversion are two reactions babies have to stimuli. Arousal is a response to stimulating factors and helps them develop curiosity and engagement with their environment. Aversion is a response to painful over-stimulation. Both of these reactions require a liberal amount of nurturing interaction with the parent to grow the baby's brain circuitry ...

Ron Paul Homeschool Curriculum Announced: Grades K - 5 Will Be Offered for Free!

Over the weekend, we learned that Ron Paul's next big project is a full K-12 Ron Paul homeschool curriculum that will be offered to parents for free from grades K-5. Website: RonPaulCurriculum.com "You're trying to decrease my future tax obligations and improve my education?" *mmmwwwaaahhhh* The curriculum is being co-authored with libertarian economist Gary North and libertarian historian Tom Woods . On his own blog, Woods lists the benefits of the new Ron Paul homeschool curriculum as follows: (1) Grades K-5 will be available for free. You have six years to try out the program without having to spend a dime. (2) Students will learn the origins and travails of liberty in the Western world and in the United States in particular. (3) Students will learn the economics of the Austrian School. (4) Students can learn at their own pace. If they’re advanced and move more quickly, they can quiz out of the first two years of college and enter college as juni...

The Capitalist Message of Easter Egg Hunts??

Made up characters that give you free stuff if you behave yourself. So I Googled " libertarian easter eggs ." I don't know what I was hoping to find. Maybe some egg dyed bright yellow with the words "DONT TREAD ON ME" stenciled on. Or a half black, half gold anarcho-capitalist Easter egg. Or a half black, half red anarcho-communist Easter egg. Or a red, white, and blue Easter egg. Or something. Anyway, I found this pretty cute article from Parents.com's DadaBase Blog by a libertarian dad about his two-year-old son's successful egg hunt. The dad thinks his son learned a subtle capitalist message. I don't know. I think an egg hunt is probably more mercantilist than anything. It's also definitely zero-sum. If you want to teach the kid a capitalist message, arrange to take him on a tour of a local family farm where they actually create new eggs. Have him buy a couple with some money he made doing simple age-appropriate chores. Take them hom...

Video: Puppy Attacks Owners w/ Fireworks

The following hilarious video is just my way of reminding you that as you play with fireworks and drink cold adult beverages today, just be sure to play safe! (And if you don't, get some good video footage of it so we can all laugh at you.) Hat tip: reddit PS: When I was a teenager, I set my shirt on fire while playing with fireworks on my grandmother's farm in Kentucky. It's funny to look back on, but only because I lucked out and don't have third degree burn scars. Be safe people! And absolutely do not drink and drive! Plan ahead and have a DD. And if you're going to "play army" with members of the opposite gender (or the same gender, whatever) do wear "a helmet." I love you guys and I want you all to have heaps of fun this Fourth of July without setting yourselves on fire or making bad life choices (that set your pee on fire). That's right: libertarians can be responsible. Wes Messamore , Editor in Chief, T H L Articles | A...

How to raise a happy, empathetic, well-adjusted child

"Ever meet a kindergartner who seemed naturally compassionate and cared about others' feelings? Who was cooperative and didn't demand his own way? Chances are, his parents held, carried and cuddled him a lot; he most likely was breastfed; he probably routinely slept with his parents; and he likely was encouraged to play outdoors with other children, according to new research findings from the University of Notre Dame." Privatizing Marriage Video Op Ed

In this video I answer the question: Instead of legalizing gay marriage, what if each state de-legalized straight marriage? Why after all, should the state define what many consider to be a private, religious question? You can read the full text of the video here . W. E. Picture of the Day - Rand Paul's Youngest Fan

This picture is just so incredibly cute, and a great reminder of who Rand Paul wants to work for- the future of our republic and its children, to secure our blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity. This little man in the picture is the victim of runaway spending and insane deficits in Washington. I took this picture while volunteering for Rand Paul's campaign earlier this year. W. E.
