Strange… I don’t remember sitting on Nancy Claus’ lap telling her I wanted a 1900 page bill that will cost the taxpayers (you and me) over a trillion dollars. I actually told Santa that I wanted brown leather boots for Christmas. Why do Nancy and the rest of her cronies think that they know what I need better than I do? Because they are "Progressives" who think that We the People are stupid and cannot make good enough choices for ourselves so they must step in and do it for us. They put President Bush’s staff under constant scrutiny. CNN claims that President Bush and his aides are far-right wing extremists. This pushes the Bush Communications Director to say that the White House will treat MS-NBC and CNN as if they were political opponents. Then Fox News commentator Bill O’Reilly invites the CEO of Media Matters for America, David Brock on his show for an interview. Instead of discussing the pre-determined points, O’Reilly personally attacks him. Do you think that the rest of the main stream media would cry out against such egregious attacks on the first amendment and blatant media biases? Yet all of these things have happened. "When you look at my record," his impersonator, Fred Armisen said, "it's very clear what I've done so far -- and that is nothing,” Yet now the Nobel Peace Prize is given to a man who has not kept any of his campaign promises -from closing Gitmo, to not hiring lobbyists, to posting bills online so we can read them before they are signed. It was a beautiful drive. We got into Fairfax, VA on Friday night about 10:30. Our friend Jessica from NYC had flown to DC and stayed in the hotel with us. And two other friends, Amy Davis and her mother Diana drove on their own and stayed at the same hotel. So we had a pretty good sized group for not really being part of a 9/12 Project Group or a national organization. We got very little sleep on Friday night because we were so very excited to be there making history. We woke up early on Saturday morning, packed up what we would need for the day and headed to the subway station. They bellow about a woman’s right to choose ( to kill her unborn child ) but are strangely silent for real choices when it comes to school choice, health care choice, and true freedom in all aspects of life. President Obama terminated the school voucher program in Washington, DC even though children in the program had been performing better at a fraction of the cost. The students currently enrolled may continue until they graduate, but the program is now over as they are not registering any new children. The school voucher program is less expensive per child than educating the child in the failing DC school district ($7,500 for vouchers vs. $8,322-$24,600 for public education.) So we save money –good for taxpayers- and the children participating actually get an education –good for society. But we can’t have choice in schools. They wrote in a straightforward way that allowed all who read the Constitution and subsequent laws to know exactly what their rights and freedoms were. Thomas Jefferson, in a letter to William Johnson in 1823, wrote “Laws are made for men of ordinary understanding and should, therefore, be construed by the ordinary rules of common sense.” The American people actually lived by common sense back then, even some politicians. It's still possible to follow their example today, regardless of America's 21st century size and scope. The Federal Highway Act of 1956 was only two sheets of paper . The bill was strictly about building the interstate highway system that would traverse the entire United States. But since then something changed in how our elected officials saw legislation. We have finally won a war of words with the left. We have made “liberal” a dirty word. Instead there has been a shift to be called Progressives. I personally think Progressive is a much better and more accurate term for the left. Liberal is what at one time described John Locke, Thomas Jefferson and Adam Smith. Classical liberals believed in private property rights, individual freedoms and responsibilities, and free markets. These great thinkers are on the opposite side of the political spectrum from Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi, Hillary Clinton and Barack Hussein Obama. But who are the Progressives?
