Abolish The Police And Replace Them With "UBER BLUE"

Did you know that in America you are 8 times more likely to be killed by a police officer than by a terrorist? Seriously. That bizarre and unsettling fact is based on statistics from a 2004 National Safety Council report, the National Center for Health Statistics, the U.S. Census Bureau, and 2003 mortality data from the Center for Disease Control. Completely unwarranted, unjustified, and often deadly police violence against the American people is an epidemic of absurd proportions. It's an absolute scandal how bad it is. I probably follow a lot more political groups and pages than the average person, and I almost can't scroll through my streams without seeing video of another obvious act of flagrant police abuse on a weekly basis. If any other organization, or even broad group of similar organizations as in the case of police, had so many, such violent scandals so often, we would not tolerate it. No private industry could get away with this much scandal without being s...

A Libertarian Solution to School Shootings: Legalize Mortal Combat

If you really care about saving children's lives then after reading this short explanation you'll support this policy proposal. If you don't support legalizing mortal combat in the United States after reading this, you obviously don't care about children dying and their blood will be on your hands. Is that a little extreme? Naaaah. It's not extreme enough... You probably even relish in the thought of children dying if you don't support this policy proposal, you filthy-souled sith-spawn of hell from whence you came, you reactionary obstructionist piece of human trash. That's more like it. No. I'm just kidding. Feel free to criticize this idea or help me develop it, but I think I might be on to something that could strangely make the world a nicer and more barbaric place at the same time, but where everyone wins. Here's the idea: The U.S. should legalize mortal combat. There should be a government operated mortal combat league, l...

"We must do something!"

It's not a good way to organize a society: comparing the one we have to a hypothetical perfect one in which nothing terrible ever happens. Life has always been a tragedy for everyone who's ever lived. Because there's so much pain. And sooner or later it always ends in death. But this is an amazing life most of us are living in America and even most of the world in the 21st Century! We've created an amazingly very stable, very healthy, very clean, very comfortable, and very safe society. I am all for progress to continue through our spontaneous cooperation to keep making things better every way we can, starting with our selves, and the wonderfully vast sea of good will and benevolence that most people have for others. I am opposed in principle to attempts at progress made via radical political changes to how our society is constituted, using one of the most blunt force trauma instruments in the history of the world: the United States federal government. Th...

Rand Paul on Tax Reform: Everybody Should Get a Tax Cut

Paul argues that trying to craft a revenue neutral tax reform means that some Americans will get tax cuts, but other Americans will see their taxes go up to pay for it, and that those with the least influence in the political process will be the ones who see their taxes go up... Read all about Senator Rand Paul's tax reform plan called "The Flat and Fair Tax," in my most recent article at The Independent Voter Network.

Trump and DACA

This is not a partisan tirade. I did not vote for Clinton or Obama either time. So I am not just reflexively criticizing Donald Trump for this because he's Trump and has an R next to his name. In one sentence: None of this is any of the federal government's business. Both DACA and the repeal of DACA are examples of big government run amok. If I want to hire someone, that's their work permit. They are now permitted to work for me. It's my business. Because I am paying them to and I give them permission to. It's my money to pay them. And it's my business to decide. We don't need any extra permission from anyone else. We're grown ups. We can decide. It doesn't matter where that person was born either. That's one of the stupidest things I've ever heard. Why should the place someone was born make them have any less rights than anyone else? We're all people. Do conservatives think God cares where a person was born? Do the...

Libertarian Solutions: How Congress Makes Hurricanes Worse and How to Keep Americans Safe From The Next Big Hurricane

The appropriations fight over federal relief funds for Hurricane Harvey is a big show of support and compassion, but it's really just another wealth transfer to the government that doesn't do anything to solve the problem at all . If Congress really cared about solving problems, they would pay out as much as they need to from the federal flood insurance program for Harvey, raise the program's budgets, whatever they need to do to fulfill promises they've made.... And in the same bill they would start to phase out the federal flood insurance program and make people pay actual market rates to private insurance companies for flood insurance by a certain target date. Then people will have to consider the real costs of building in a flood plain by a coast. Read the rest of my article , Which was graciously published at Everything Voluntary

We Need Leadership: 7 NYPD Crisis Negotiations Techniques That Trump Should Use with North Korea

As tensions between the U.S. and North Korea rise, Donald Trump could show some real and effective leadership by consulting with some of his home city’s finest and most talented police officers: the NYPD Crisis Negotiations Team. By employing their professional negotiation techniques, used to neutralize volatile situations with hostage takers, people trying to commit suicide, and other people who pose an immediate danger to themselves and others, Donald Trump could go down in history as a brilliant negotiator and a good president that made the world a safer place to live... Please read the rest of my article which has been graciously published at The Jack News . And someone tweet this at the POTUS. Let's see if we can't save the world from a nuclear war with some New York know-how.

How to Stop a Blood Feud

I was thinking a lot over the weekend about the question: To what extent do we get more of what we pay attention to? And feed our emotion and energy into? Which is a tough question after a weekend like this. Because you don’t want to go ignoring serious problems. That certainly doesn’t make them go away. But at the same time it also seems true that we create a lot of our reality by the way we frame it. So even though probably no one I know would ever go to a Nazi march… When I look and see a Nazi march for a few days, and I see everybody talking about it, and people say this is how it is all over… I might start to feel like this is more common than it really is. And I might get curious about why it’s so popular. And I might start reading some of their literature. And if I’m a lost soul, and full of resentments and bitterness… I might latch on for the same reasons they did. And so all the media attention helped it grow. But if no counter-protesters showed ...

There Are Plenty of Good Reasons You Might Want to ID Yourself: Why Should The State Have a Monopoly?

Today my very creative libertarian Muslim friend, Davi Barker , wrote on his Facebook: "Anyone feel like spotting me $900 bucks so I can start issuing custom full color plastic agorist identification cards? A commenter responded: "that's very statist of you" Davi's answer: "How do you figure? There are plenty of legitimate reasons to verify your identity. I don't see why the State should have a monopoly." Commenter's response: "touche.." Davi's followup: I'm not sure if you've noticed, but the whole point of Shiny Badges is to provide market alternatives of Statist insignia. Lapel pins. Badges. Declarations. Soon flags, maybe ID cards. That's the joke... or is it the strategy. Maybe it's a strategy disguised as a joke. Another commenter wrote: I'm saddened that you didn't check https://www.bitcoinstore.com/badgy-bdg101fru-card-printer.html first! You can save over $165 and pay with Bitcoi...

Stop Calling It "Foreign Aid" to Egypt!

In present discussions over Washington foreign policy and so-called " aid to Egypt ," can we please stop calling it "aid to Egypt?" It's a very deceptive term to describe the yearly transfer of over a billion dollars worth of military vehicles, weapons, and equipment to Egypt's military. That's not foreign aid. That's just sending billions of dollars worth of weapons to people in another country. The question is not, "Should we end foreign aid to Egypt." The question is, "Should Washington stop sending a billion dollars a year worth of weapons to a country that has overthrown two different governments in two years and is already killing people with the weapons Washington has already sent it?" Answer: Yes! Stop this madness right now.

A Quick and Easy Phone Script to Urge Your Senator to #STOPCISPA

Capitol Switchboard: (202) 224-3121 Phone Script [Be polite, friendly, and passionate]: Capitol Operator: How may I direct your call? Patriot: Hi, I'm calling regarding CISPA. Could I please get Senator [Your Senator's Name]'s office? ( Probably Underpaid ) Intern: Hello. How can I help you? Patriot: [Say quickly, clearly, and with conviction] Hi! I'm calling about CISPA. Thank you!

Libertarians and the Environment

Today being Earth Day, I wanted to share some libertarian perspectives and resources on the environment. You might be likely to encounter conversations about Earth Day and the environment at the workplace, around the dinner table, or when you're out and about today and for the rest of this week. Don't be caught unprepared with libertarian arguments : 1. Remind people first of all, that the worst polluter in the world is the United States government . Even if every last U.S. citizen aggressively reduced their use of energy and water, started recycling and reusing, and became just the most hardcore environmentalist in their personal lives that they possible could, it wouldn't make a dent in the amount of pollution in our world because state and county governments, and the federal government ( especially the Department of Defense), pollute so much. Any earnest, intelligent, and effective effort to reduce pollution and environmental impacts MUST begin with rolling back t...

Milton Friedman - Why Drugs Should Be Legalized [Video]

Milton Friedman talking common sense about drug policy before it was cool. When he mentions that he was a teenager during alcohol prohibition, I can't decide how old that makes him seem, or how recent that makes alcohol prohibition seem. Lessons forgotten so quickly...

Don't Legalize Gay Marriage. DE-Legalize STRAIGHT Marriage. A Libertarian Solution

Get the Privatize Marriage t-shirt . A government powerful enough to give you the right to marry is a government powerful enough to take it away. The only way for both sides to protect marriage as they understand it and achieve true marriage equality is to give all individuals the equal right to define marriage the way they see it. Pooling our definition of marriage in the public sphere is problematic in the same way and for the same reasons as pooling our money in the public sphere: it leaves us all bitterly divided and endlessly fighting over what to do with a "public resource" that belongs to everyone and no one. As long as one monolithic giant gets to define marriage for everyone, everyone will be fighting for their own definition to prevail. Conservative advocates of the traditional family are constantly reminding us of the critical importance of marriage. LGBT activists and their supporters, who have tenaciously fought to legalize gay marriage, clearly value m...

Keeping the LOVE in R 3VOL UTION

By: Eric Sharp We tout "The R3VOLUTION" -- a revolution of love. But let us remember what that means. When we offer our solutions to the problems of society, we must first state our opposition to the status quo. If we don't do that then we have no credibility. Libertarianism is not and should never be an endorsement of the system that exists now. That means that if people are suffering under the current system, we must acknowledge that suffering . Only once we have done that will they listen. For someone who is starving, or is sick and dying from lack of proper health care it does not matter how they get food or care -- especially if their suffering is not acknowledged first. If libertarianism is not an answer to suffering then it is meaningless. Fortunately, it is an answer, but we as a movement often forget to stress this point. We must create a world where the stitches that seam the planet together are love, compassion, and friendship -- rather t...

High Unemployment in the U.S. Economy is a Symptom, Not the Problem

By: Wes Messamore This nasty period of high unemployment that has plagued the U.S. economy since 2009 will not come to an end until policymakers begin to think more economically. Libertarian Solutions: How to feed the hungry people of the world (and knock off endless warfare and a few corrupt dictators) in one easy step

By: Wes Messamore At the level of production humanity is now capable of in the world today, there is absolutely no reason why anyone should go hungry, and yet so many still do. Why? The answer is no great mystery. The proximate causes and their root cause are easy enough to ascertain. Cross-reference a map of conflict zones in the world with a map highlighting areas of malnourishment and it isn’t difficult to draw the correlation between starvation and war. Look again at which governments rank as the most corrupt, and note that they typically govern nations that also rank as the least well-nourished. Government corruption, then, is strongly correlated with world hunger. Finally, pay close attention to one of the most far-reaching and historically significant, yet under-reported stories of our era: the dramatic rise in global food prices , and it should be no wonder that so many of the world’s people remain hungry even at a time when there’s no good reason for anyone not to have enoug...
