Top 100 Libertarian Movies #006 - Troy

This cinematic masterpiece is an idealized portrayal of what happens when entire nations are forced to participate in the personal flaws and follies of kings. Perfect balance of archetypes. Very beautifully done. Great mythic hero story too. Will stir something within you by the time the movie is done. Top 100 Libertarian Movies #005 - Chocolat

"There once was a town that believed in tranquility at any cost. If you saw something you weren't supposed to see, you looked the other way. Then one day a sly wind blew in from the north, and with it– strangers." Chocolat is required viewing for anyone interested in leading radical social change. (Which I am not by the way, but I know a lot of libertarians are.) Top 100 Libertarian Movies #004 - Videodrome

If you're watching it, it's for you. "The battle for the mind of North America will be fought in the video arena — the videodrome. The television screen is the retina of the mind's eye. Therefore the television screen is part of the physical structure of the brain. Therefore whatever appears on the television screen emerges as raw experience for those who watch it. Therefore television is reality, and reality is less than television." -Videodrome (1983) If you click on the picture below to buy or rent it in HD I'll get a small commission that will support my blogging. Top 100 Libertarian Movies #003 - Legends of The Fall

Probably should have come in at #001 on this list. Was there ever a movie as deeply, hauntingly, bittersweetly American as this? Legends of the Fall is also a very libertarian movie. It shows the evils and horrors of World War I. It depicts the monstrosity of the Volstead Act. It goes into U.S. mistreatment of Natives. It shows politics corrupting a young man. And it is full of deep human emotions. It is one of the most sad and beautiful movies. So wild and alive. Top 100 Libertarian Movies #002 - Total Recall

This movie was way ahead of its time and very libertarian. You've got future California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger (lol at that still all these years later! haha ha ha haha!) playing Douglas Quaid, a construction worker who ends up pursued throughout the movie by "the Agency." Central Intelligence Agency???? 😱 (By the way, Trigger Warning: Rated-R violence ahead...) Looming in the background of the movie is an endless inter planetary military quagmire in a foreign land (Mars) between the government and rebels over buried resources (alien tech). And the movie came out just before the first Iraq War. It came out in 1990 and features a shoot out scene at basically a TSA check point, and Quaid even runs through basically a TSA x-ray body scanner and it detects his gun. And Quaid takes a self driving car with a voice assistant, something that Google does both of today in reality, but was science fiction at the time just as recently as 1990. A...

Top 100 Libertarian Movies #001 - Ghostbusters

A group of paranormal scientists lose funding from their university, so they become entrepreneurs and start a small ghost extermination business. They don't have any customers, so they do some marketing. And what do you know? It drums up some business. They get their first customer. And they become so successful that they get stressed out from how busy they are. And they also attract attention from a government regulatory bully. Who intrudes into their business on the premise of protecting the public, a solution in search of a problem that ends up creating a problem where there was none. Well I'll let you watch the movie to see how it all turns out, but Ghostbusters is an archetypal tale of the oppression of the market by an intrusive government with problems even more overgrown than the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man!
