Rand Paul on Tax Reform: Everybody Should Get a Tax Cut

Paul argues that trying to craft a revenue neutral tax reform means that some Americans will get tax cuts, but other Americans will see their taxes go up to pay for it, and that those with the least influence in the political process will be the ones who see their taxes go up... Read all about Senator Rand Paul's tax reform plan called "The Flat and Fair Tax," in my most recent article at The Independent Voter Network.

Prediction: Rand Paul becomes president in 2016. At the end of his eight year tenure...

...government will be bigger than ever. Just like it was at the end of Ronald Reagan's time in the White House. And you will have given millions of dollars to Rand Paul along the way, who will spend it on ads to get elected, ads in the mainstream media outlets that teach people not to be free. This is how libertarians unwittingly subsidize a message that makes theirs incomprehensible to the people they are trying to enlighten. You'd be better off spending your political donations on some good books.

How You Know Rand Paul Is Winning The Argument

Yes, wolves exist, but we shouldn't trust the boy who cries wolf with the responsibility of alerting us to the real ones. Yes, racists exist, but a racist these days is all too often really just a conservative winning an argument with a liberal. You've seen big government propagandists do it again and again. They will bend over backwards to assail defenders of liberty as racists on the basis of flimsy circumstantial evidence and rationally deficient arguments used to smear their targets by insinuation, false association, and outright fabrication. When the Tea Party was in full swing waving a million anti-tax signs across the nation, all too many of its critics jumped on any opportunity, no matter how ridiculous or outright fabricated, to cast the fiscal policy movement as a sinister bastion of racism. The NAACP passed a resolution in 2010 calling on the Tea Party to purge its ranks of racists or accept responsibility for them. The NAACP and its cheerleaders were heavy o...

Rappers Closer to Rand Paul Than Barack Obama on Drug War Policy

Weekly Standard reported yesterday that a loooong list of rappers, celebrities, and community leaders have penned an open letter to President Obama asking for drug and prison policy reform. Meanwhile, Republican Senator Rand Paul is getting applause breaks at a mostly-Democratic historically black college for supporting just such reforms. Real question is, how are Willie Nelson and Snoop Dogg not on this list? Who rocks harder? Drug policy open letter signatory P. Diddy? Or two men with a serious stake in libertized drug policy?

GOP's Learning Problem And Why It Will Continue to Lose

Analysts continue to consider CPAC’s strategical takeaways weeks after the 2013 Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), where attendees were constantly faced with both questions and propositions of how the Republican Party must, as the NRA’s David Keene put it, “adapt or die.” If the tremendous surge in support seen recently from the right-wing political base for officials like Rand Paul, Ted Cruz, Mike Lee, Justin Amash, and Thomas Massie--candidates that just a few years ago would have been impossible to elect-- are any indication, the GOP is, indeed, adapting. As conservative writer George Will stated on a Sunday morning talk show recently, what he saw “at CPAC was the rise of the libertarian strand of Republicanism, which has an affected foreign policy that is a pullback from nation-building and other ambitions abroad that they never countenance from government at home, and a sense of ‘live and let live’ with subjects such as decriminalization of certain drugs and ga...

The GOP Doesn't Have a Marketing Problem. It Has a Product Problem

Wow, for some reason John McCain looks like someone I could vote for now. Last week, the Republican National Committee released a major 2013 report entitled " The Growth and Opportunity Project ." In the words of its report, the purpose of the project was "to dig deep to provide an honest review of the 2012 election cycle and a path forward for the Republican Party to ensure success in winning more elections." Here's a shovel. Keep digging. Using your handy-dandy Cmd+F function, you will be unable to find any of the words from the following list in a report about why the Republicans are losing elections and how to start winning them again: liberty freedom capitalism constitution founding fathers libertarian(s) tea party ron paul civil liberties federal reserve national debt jeff frazee rand paul 2016 we seriously ****ed up; we submit our resignations That last quip aside, if the chairman's people didn't dig deep enough to ev...

Yes, Rand Paul is the real deal and most libertarian Senator we have. I TOLD YOU SO.

Finally! Libertarians are starting to give Rand Paul his due. Rand Paul is the real deal, they admit. This isn't news to me. I already knew it. In an upcoming Reason Magazine article, Matt Welch writes : "It’s getting hard to remember now, but there was a time for a little while there when a fair number of libertarians were worried that Rand Paul was shaping up to be another Beltway sellout." Humph! Maybe it's getting hard for Matt Welch to remember, but I remember it crystal clear. Last summer while interning in Arlington, VA with Young Americans for Liberty , I spent an hour on the phone arguing with a girl I was dating at the time who lived in "The Free State" --New Hampshire. She'd let herself be fooled by some arm-chair libertarians who are probably having a lot of fun playing "civil disobedience" (it's not that hardcore when your friends go on the Internet and ask people for money to bail you out) when they're not getting h...

Rand Paul's "birther" demand: I'd like to see Donald Trump's Republican registration

Reports The Hill : Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) on Thursday took a swipe at billionaire businessman Donald Trump, demanding to see his "Republican registration." While speaking at a breakfast with New Hampshire Republicans one day after "The Donald" visited the Granite State, Paul riffed off the potential GOP presidential candidate's "birther" questions. “I’ve come to New Hampshire today because I’m very concerned,” said Paul, according to The New York Times. “I want to see the original long-form certificate of Donald Trump’s Republican registration.” Read the entire story at TheHill.com .
