Ron Paul Channel Paywall Draws Criticism

Two Freedom Feens talk radio hosts argue that "Ron Paul's Pay Wall Makes Him A Dinosaur Thrashing In The Tar Pits." An excerpt:

"He's trying to make it look like Fox News... And it's like-- it doesn't really work... What I think would be better is just him in his office, in his cozy home. I don't want Ron Paul trying to look like a talking head. I want Ron Paul being Ron Paul."

"Although there is something to be said like Ben Swann said when we interviewed him, that there are visual cues; there are these subconscious things that make people think, 'Oh, this is news,' but I don't really know if Ron Paul's audience in general falls for that, and if the idea is not to preach to the choir, the people that already love him who are going to be the ones paying ten dollars a month to see this, but it's to spread the message, then why are you having people pay ten dollars to see this, right? If the idea is to spread the word, how are you going to convince somebody who hates Ron Paul and thinks he's some right-wing conspiracist [sic] and doesn't understand the concept of liberty to pay ten dollars. Someone who thinks he's funded by the Koch brothers is not going to pay ten dollars to watch the Ron Paul Channel."

"...if he wants to just spread liberty, he should give it away... I'm not saying it's the only ethical thing to do, but the smart thing to do in this day and age is to give everything away and find out other ways to make money and not even worry about it, maybe even still have a day job."

At the DailyPaul, one user wrote in defense of Ron Paul Channel's pay wall:

"Spare Me the Agony Over $10 Per Month for the Ron Paul Channel

I see so many people complaining about the price of Ron Paul's new channel being $10 per month. I subscribed not only to see what it has to offer, but also because I don't mind giving Dr. Paul $10 a month (for at least a few months) to see how the channel progresses. Think about it - $10 is the amount you'd spend eating out for lunch one day.

I can understand people being hesitant to donate to campaigns if your candidate doesn't get elected and feeling like you received nothing in return, but for $10 a month you ARE getting something in return. Unfiltered, honest news from undoubtedly the most intelligent host of any news program.

I'd really like to see the channel grow to be 24/7 with various programs and honest reporting, but for now will settle for Dr. Paul's commentary."

Some commenters disagreed:

"I'm SO sick of the pro RP Channel people trying to guilt the rest of us into subscribing. The name of the game on the internet is FREE content. Get it!

We are supposed to give to Campaign for Liberty, LibertyPAC, Rands campaigns, Amash, Cruz et al., and now Ron's channel...WTF!"

$5.95 a month, and you get to share your subscription with 10 friends. I see people on the DP attacking Alex Jones for profiting off the liberty movement, but Alex Jones subscription TV has way more content, for a much lower price, and he encourages to share with 10 other people to help spread the message. $5.95 a month for 11 subscriptions vs. $110.00 a month for 11 subscriptions.

Obama keeps pushing the bipartisan religion of interventionism

Michael Scheuer is deadly accurate - foreign interventionism is a bipartisan religion (or disease, whichever you prefer). Too often, I believe, Americans think about Washington’s interventionism only as the actual physical intervention of U.S. military forces abroad in places where no U.S. interest is at risk. That activity certainly is intervention, but President Obama’s despicable decision last week to have his administration leak intelligence claiming that Israel has concluded an agreement with the government of Azerbaijan to allow its use of Azeri airfields for an air strike on Iran is just as much an unwarranted intervention by the United States government. Readers of this blog will know that I carry no brief for Israel, that I believe it is a state that is irrelevant to U.S. national interests, and one whose U.S.-citizen supporters are disloyal to America and involved in activities that compromise U.S. security and corrupt the U.S. political system. That said, Israel — l...

How Thorough a Brainwashing

Saw this on Facebook: Left this comment: It's more thorough of a wash job than that. They don't just believe they are not brainwashed, the question has never occurred to them and as long as they keep reading TIME and watching MTV, it's *impossible* for the question to occur to them. Oh brave new world, that has such people in it. EDIT: And one more thing-- don't ever stop considering what questions it is currently impossible to occur to you . This is what I've been thinking about a lot lately and I'm worried just how large and numerous my own blindspots are. The only solution is to be as intellectually curious as possible. To learn voraciously. To read things that challenge us. To read things that are hard for us to understand and then try to understand them. To expose ourselves to ideas far removed from our present culture and place on the timeline. Read old books. Read foreign books. Turn off the TV. You have already absorbed its biases and blindspots. ...

How To Gain More Twitter Followers

Earlier today, I wrote : "My goal is to write a book before the end of March. My goal is to spend no more than a week from start to publication, spending as much time as I need in order to get it done during that week. My goal is to give it away to you for free here on HumbleLibertarian.com. What's a goal you have? Something you may have been putting off for years? Something you could accomplish in one month if you were determined? If it's near-term enough of a goal, and specific enough of a goal, and you share it in the comments below, feel free to tell me how I can help you and I'll do whatever I can. If it's a libertarian / news / politics-related goal, my manner of help would be easy to determine. I could promote it, introduce you to someone via email, (etc.). If it's something apolitical like quit smoking cigarettes, start exercising, learn guitar, start a business, gain more Twitter followers, learn another language, eat a paleo diet, or...
