Celebrities prepare themselves for Golden Globe humiliation from Ricky Gervais

While Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie's presence, amongst the likes of fellow nominees Charlize Theron and George Clooney, will undoubtedly up the Globes' glamour quotient, it is the show's less telegenic host, Ricky Gervais, who will dominate global headlines, shunting more glamourous attendees out of the limelight once again.
For his third presenting stint, the British comedian – who last year cracked jokes at Mel Gibson, Robert Downey Jr, and Bruce Willis, to name but a few – has promised some of his most caustic barbs yet, leading show producers to introduce a seven-second delay into the "live" telecast.
The delay will reportedly be implemented by broadcasters NBC, who are said to want an "emergency cord" to pull should Gervais make any quips likely to offend viewers, after the comic refused to disclose his script to the network.
"No one knows what I'm going to say until I say it. That was my only stipulation to host again," Gervais said, adding that he felt "bulletproof" about his material, despite criticisms that he went too far last year.
A quarter of the Globes' sponsors, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, voted against reinstating Gervais as host. The association's former president Philip Berk said Gervais had "crossed the line" with his comments last year, adding: "Some of the things were totally unacceptable."
Totally unacceptable! But he's good for the ratings... so we're bringing him on again.
