So who is Kristi Noem? The 38-year-old rancher and state representative is being hailed as the "Sarah Palin of South Dakota" in her run against the Democratic incumbent Stephanie Herseth-Sandlin for a U.S. House seat. While the similarities are apparent, Kristi Noem being a dark horse victor in her party's primary, a beautiful wife and mother of three, a rancher, and a hunter, we hope the similarities stop there and don't include for instance, Sarah Palin's support for the TARP bailouts and for bailout-voting candidates.
Besides, Noem's opponent also shares many similarities with Sarah Palin as a beautiful wife, mother, and avid hunter. One thing she doesn't share is Palin's support for the bailouts, which Herseth-Sandlin voted against. Does that qualify her to keep her seat?
Noem is correct to question the logic in voting against the health care bill as Herseth-Sandlin did, but then insisting as she does on the campaign trail that it should not be repealed. We also like that Noem distances herself from any comparisons to Palin.
When asked by ABC News what she thought of the comparison, she answered, "I'm my own person. I'm Kristi Noem."
