Words of Wisdom from Penn Jillette: Mistrust of Government is a "Beautiful" Thing

Here are some excellent words of wisdom from a recent interview with Penn Jillette, the magician, performer, comedian, and outspoken advocate for libertarian ideas. Penn is taking libertarianism mainstream with an approach that is at once reasoned and compassionate- and very entertaining:

"I believe that our country, uniquely for the time, was founded on mistrust for the government, which is such a heady and beautiful idea."

"And I think that it was so weird to see all the people who said that dissent was part of their job during the Bush Administration turn around and say that we were all supposed to rally behind Obama. I mean, I disagreed with Bush and Obama tremendously... and on the exact same issues."

"I think the biggest misconception that I find about libertarians is that there's a lack of compassion and I think that there is as much compassion on libertarians as there is among liberals. It's not what the problems are, it's how to solve them."

Organizations were singled out because they included the words "tea party" or "patriot" in their applications for tax-exempt status, said Lois Lerner, who heads the IRS division that oversees tax-exempt groups. Cody Wilson: I'm Looking Forward to Jail. It'll Give Me Time to Catch Up On My Reading

Writes Nick of his recent interview with Cody Wilson at TheTruthAboutGuns.com : 'The first thing we wanted to know is if he’s worried about a possible stretch as a guest of the the federal government in one of their high security greybar hotels. Cody’s response: “I’m looking forward to it. It’ll give me time to catch up on my reading.” As far as he’s concerned, the government might get him on any number of technicalities. Cody started listing the ways that Uncle Sam could justify putting him away, almost as if they were badges of honor — thumbing his nose at their attempts to control the proliferation of firearms.
