Here's the script I generally followed for the video above:
This is a message for the leaders of the Republican Party.
If what you're seeing now is what you picture when you think of the typical person who supported the candidacy of Ron Paul in the 2008 Republican Primary- you are missing out on the opportunity of a lifetime. My name is Wes Messamore. I'm 22 years old & during the 2008 Republican Primary I supported the candidacy of Congressman Ron Paul.
No I don't sit around and blog with a tin-foil hat on so the government can't read my thoughts, no I do not believe incoherent theories about the 9-11 terrorist attacks, and no I am not simply obsessed with politics.... yeah, maybe I am. But you see that's a good thing. I represent a key demographic, a demographic that helped sweep President Obama to victory in 2008. I represent young, passionate, web-savvy, hard-working Americans who crave change because we are skeptical of the Washington establishment.
The Ron Paul Movement Is About Conservative Values
If you want to capture seats in 2010 and the Oval Office in 2012, you must get us to embrace the GOP. The cool thing is that you don't even have to compromise any of your core principles to do so. In fact, what you absolutely must do is return to them. The Republican leadership must return to the traditional Republican values that united a broad coalition in 1984 and swept the GOP to a landslide victory. Those values are the values of our Founding Fathers- limited government, strict Constitutionalism, and emphasis on individual liberty.
Which brings us full circle to the point I began to make at the beginning of this video. The movement that coalesced around Ron Paul in 2008 is not a group of batty nut-jobs wearing tin-foil hats. Listen to them. Read their blogs. Read their signs. Read their bumper stickers. This is a group that believes in the traditional, conservative values of limited government, strict Constitutionalism, and individual liberty.
Ron Paul's supporters are an invaluable asset
We are energetic and hardworking, willing to volunteer our time and money, and we are able to mobilize and take action at the drop of a hat, without any central organization or leadership. We love America and we want her to be free and prosperous. We love the values that made her great and if the GOP embraces those values, we will embrace the GOP.
I know that the Republican leadership yearns for the days of Ronald Reagan, and though I will be the first to agree that there was something magical about Reagan, we must remember or even learn to begin with that it was not a man of flesh and blood who won in 1984, it was an idea. As Ronald Reagan himself put it, "Man is not free unless government is limited."
Reagan Quote on Conservatism & Libertarianism
If the GOP plans to win in 2010 and 2012 without its principles, then the GOP plans to lose. And even if it does win a few electoral battles, I ask how shall it profit the Republican Party to gain the whole country and lose its own soul? If the Republican leadership yearns for Reagan, but continues to ignore the Ron Paul faction of its party, let me please remind you of Ronald Reagan's own words in 1975. He said: "The very heart and soul of conservatism is libertarianism."
