Tea Parties Oppose Net Neutrality

The Hill reports that "Tea Party groups are staking out an anti-regulatory position in the fight over net neutrality rules for phone and cable companies. A coalition that included 35 Tea Party groups sent a letter to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) on Wednesday urging the agency not to boost its authority over broadband providers through a controversial process known as reclassification. The process could give federal regulators the power to impose net neutrality rules, which would prevent Internet access providers from favoring some content and applications over others." Writing for the Left Cost Rebel , Les Carpenter reminds us: "The ability of one to express their views and positions, especially when they are unpopular or provocative, is the bedrock of a free society. A society whose citizens enjoy the liberty to speak openly and honesty about that which concerns them is the bedrock of the very foundation of our Republic. There are those who aspire to ...

"Progressive" blogger Matt Yglesias advocates lying

From The Daily Caller : 'Matt Yglesias likes to call his political opponents “dishonest,” but in a revealing exchange on the website Twitter Friday he advocated lying for political purposes. “Fighting dishonesty with dishonesty is sometimes the right thing for advocates to do, yes,” said Yglesias. The exchange, with Washington Examiner writer Mark Hemingway, came on the heels of a debate between the two on transportation policy. ... On that subject, Yglesias wrote more than a year ago that advocates for high-speed rail may need to present “unrealistically optimistic” ridership estimates to obtain government funding for the projects. “For better or for worse, that’s politics,” Yglesias said then. ... In concluding his interview with The Daily Caller, Yglesias said “go [f***] yourself” and hung up the phone.' Read the entire article here . W. E. Young Americans for Liberty Convention

The Humble Libertarian blog went relatively quiet this weekend as I attended Young Americans for Liberty 's National Convention in Washington DC. The things I observed and experienced these last four days have given me a renewed hope in the future of our country . Here were dozens of students- our nation's most dedicated to the cause of liberty- receiving professional political training and learning how to mobilize to win. Gone are the days when advocates of limited government quietly discussed their views in isolated pockets of academia or libertarian public policy institutes. Behind us are the times when libertarians complained that their ideas should succeed simply by virtue of being right. These students are ready to mobilize to take our ideas to the mainstream and to achieve electoral victories that will set our country on the path to unprecedented liberty, peace, and prosperity. For the last four days, I met, interacted with, and learned from the future leaders ...

Picture of the Day - Rand Paul's Youngest Fan

This picture is just so incredibly cute, and a great reminder of who Rand Paul wants to work for- the future of our republic and its children, to secure our blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity. This little man in the picture is the victim of runaway spending and insane deficits in Washington. I took this picture while volunteering for Rand Paul's campaign earlier this year. W. E. Opposition to Tax Cannabis Act mounts

'Though it may be counter-intuitive, opposition is also rising from some of California's marijuana advocates themselves, including medical marijuana dispensaries. Lanette Davies, who co-owns a medical marijuana dispensary with her husband, spent weeks distributing anti-Prop 19 literature at the California State Fair. She says she's looking out for her patients, not her bottom line: "We could literally overnight increase our business fivefold [if Prop 19 passes], but it is not in the best interests of the patients." Though it's also likely that Lanette's business could fail overnight if Proposition 19 passes, and the floodgates are opened to thousands of competitors and much cheaper cannabis. Her customers could even grow the plant themselves. When the flood of new competition and the inevitable decrease in the price of cannabis is considered, opposition from medical marijuana dispensaries- like opposition from illegal cannabis dealers- may not be so c...

The Solomon of San Francisco

Editor's note: Here at The Humble Libertarian , we are dedicated to getting the state out of our bedrooms by getting it out of the marriage issue altogether. Our mantras are de -legalize straight marriage, privatize marriage, and stop using the tax code or any other government policy to penalize people on the basis of sexual orientation. We agree however, with Buchanan's assessment below, that finding anything about marriage in the U.S. Constitution requires a tortured reading thereof, which is why a federal judge recently- and rightly- struck down the Defense of Marriage Act on the basis of the 10th Amendment. Constitutionally, marriage is an issue for the states, not Washington. And morally, marriage is an issue for individuals, not the states. ------------- "Federal Judge Vaughn Walker is truly a visionary. "Peering at the 14th Amendment, Walker found something there the authors of the amendment never knew they put there, and even the Warren Court never found ther...
